The Barrie area is a winter enthusiast’s paradise that averages approximately 220 centimeters of snowfall annually. This gives residents and visitors to the area a great opportunity to venture out and enjoy a variety of winter sports. Some of the winter sports that are available in the Barrie area include; alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.

ALPINE SKIING

The Barrie area is home to two great alpine ski resorts that can accommodate skiers of every experience level, from beginner to expert.  Snow Valley Ski ResortMount St. Louis Moonstone and Horseshoe Resort combined, offer 85 downhill runs that are sure to give any skier an exhilarating ride!


SNOWBOARDING

Mount St. Louis Moonstone is central Ontario’s terrain park headquarters. With 2 terrain parks, a progression pipe and super pipe any boarder will be sure to have an exhilarating day.


CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Classic cross country skiing is a more relaxed way to enjoy the trails and is easier to learn. It is usually done on groomed, parallel tracks, but can be done on ungroomed, fresh snow and backcountry trails. In contrast, skate skiing is a high-intensity sport that requires a high aerobic ability and is limited to groomed or packed snow surfaces.

Hardwood Ski and Bike has over 40km of beautiful trails and is Central Ontario’s premier cross country ski center for skiers of all ages and skill levels. The newly designed trail system offers 10 different loops that accommodate both classic and skate style skiing.


SNOWSHOEING

On a pair of snowshoes you can walk over even the deepest snow while strolling through the woods or venturing in the backcountry. This great sport is growing in popularity because it takes minimal equipment and is easy to learn and is fun for the whole family.

The Barrie area is home to a number of wooded paths that are ideal for snowshoeing. If you are in need of rental equipment or want to try it for the first time, head out to Hardwood Ski and Bike or Snow Valley Resort. Both of these great area resorts offer rental equipment for you to go out to enjoy kilometers of trails that vary in length and difficulty.


SNOW TUBING
